Road Trip 2012: Sunday 10/14

No miles on my truck, about 40 on Karen's car, and still camped at the chalet in Mt. Shasta, California.

It's a leisurely Sunday morning.  Cory and Molly are packing up to leave this morning, but they aren't in a hurry.  We made a breakfast of bacon and eggs and ate on the front deck of the chalet that faces Mt. Shasta.  It is a gorgeous morning.

About noon they said good bye and hit the road.  I'm going to really miss Cory and Molly.  I've had so much fun with them.

Bob, Karen and I decided to take an afternoon road trip up Mt. Shasta, or at least as far as you can drive.  Mt. Shasta is the 5th highest peak in California at 14,179 feet.  We were able to drive to about 7,900 feet.  The drive up and down offers stunning views.  We stopped a few times for short hikes.

On the Mt. Shasta drive we met a young couple with Switzerland license plates on their van,  We struck up a conversation and discovered that had shipped their van from Germany to Canada about two months ago.  The had been driving across Canada and the US since then.  Now they were headed south and were eventually going to end up in South America.  They were planning to be on the road for another ten months or so.

We ended the day with a spaghetti dinner and some good wine.  Bedtime was early.  On Monday Zoey and I leave and start the homeward bound trek to the east.  I plan stay somewhere in Nevada Monday night.
