Retirement Road Trip 2011: Day 30, Saturday, 9/24

0 miles, still parked at my sister Karen's house.

Karen, Bob and I went shopping at the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market in San Francisco today.  It was colorful and crowded.  The shopping choices were almost overwhelming.  Many of the vendors were offering samplings.  Almost everything there was advertised as organic, or free range, or sustainable.

The Ferry Plaza Market is located at the Embarcadero.  The Embarcardero is the waterfront region along San Francisco Bay that extends from AT&T Park on the south to Fisherman's Wharf on the north.  The region suffered heavy damage from the 1989 earthquake and has since been redeveloped.  It is now a hub of activity with markets, shops, marinas, office buildings, and San Francisco Giants baseball at the AT&T Stadium.  The San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge passes overhead.  Rincon Park is a two acre open green space along the Embarcadero.  A huge sculpture called "Cupid's Span" is at the center of the park.

We took a walk around AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants.  As a kid, my strongest memory of the Giants is the "Say Hey Kid" Willie Mays.  The stadium is located right on the water along with a marina.

Of course, we had to sample oysters for lunch.

We finished up the day with some wine tasting at Rosenblum Winery.  :-))
