Road Trip 2012: Friday 9/14

Today we went to the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum is Wausau.  The Annual "Birds in Art" Exhibit is on display now.  Birds in Art is a juried art show, where about 100 works are selected from over 600 submitted world wide.  There is also an outdoor sculpture garden.  One of the outdoor sculptures is by Deborah Butterfield.  Butterfield specializes in sculptures of horses made from found objects, particularly wood.  Her work was also on display at the Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan that I toured earlier this week.

The drive back to Amherst was uneventful.  Driving around Central Wisconsin is almost identical to driving around Northern and Central New York.  The trees are the same and the landscape is dotted with farms.  The drought has really had an effect.  The corn is short, the rivers are low, and the ponds are dried up.

We whiled away the afternoon around a campfire in the backyard.  Ann made a seafood chowder to die for.  I've all ready added the recipe to my fledgling collection of soups, stews, and chowders.

Later in the evening we went to the Central Waters Brewery.  Its a micro-brewery in Amherst that opens there doors as a bar two nights a week.  The tap room is located right in the brewery.  Dave and Ann have a regular group of friends that show up on Friday nights.

Saturday I hope to drive to a nearby town to look for the gravesite of Jacob Sipher, a long ago relative.  The plan for Sunday is to head to the Mississippi River for a few days of camping, canoeing, exploring, and fishing.
