Day 10 and 11: Amherst, Wisconsin

243 miles: Parked in Wrights driveway again.

Time to catch up! We packed up and left the Cornucopia, WI campground by 10:00 Saturday morning. I think Dave and Ann are adjusting to their new wake up routine at 7:00 AM. (Proof is the fact that as I write this on Monday morning at 6:15, David just walked down the stairs to prepare me a sendoff breakfast.)

We swung by the "Corny Days" Festival for an hour. Cornucopia is an small, old, former commercial fishing village that now relies on tourism. There were flea market tents setup and a parade was scheduled for later in the day. New stop was the harbor in Bayfield, WI for some general sightseeing. The harbor was full of boats, both big and small. And main street is full of shops. A Maritime Museum is located there as well. Next stop was at the Bayfield State Fish Hatchery for a very quick look. The hatchery grows out over 6 million trout eggs each year for stocking in Lake Superior.

Back on the road and parked in Wrights driveway by 6:00 PM. A long hot shower, a couple of beers, a fantastic fish and sweetcorn dinner of bass and walleye cooked by Chef Wright. He claims he actually caught the fish himself.

Sunday was spent doing laundry, reading, touring downtown Amherst, and again helping David with his internet knowledge. He tends to be slightly technology challenged. Sunday afternoon we took the the dogs to a small County Park for swimming in the lake. Zoey was beside her self. I thought she was going to pass-out from exhaustion from swimming so much. Dave's brother Crow served up dinner at his place. Crow is his nickname. He apparently has a real name, but no one has heard it in 40 or 50 years. Crow is an avid collector of Indian artifacts, and his collection is over whelming. He even has some paleo Indian tools over 10,000 years old that he found and collected himself, all in the local area.

Now I must stop and enjoy the breakfast being prepared for me. Zoey and I will hit the road soon. I have reservations at West Glacier Campground and will meet Cory there on Wednesday.

More later.....

  1. Would you belive it I am trying to test my ability to leave a comment because I have a big comment your readers might like. This is a test of the broadcasting system. It is not an actual alarm. D Wright
