Fall Western Trip 2015: Roseburg and Eugene, Oregon

Monday, 10/5:  100 miles and camped at Rising River RV Park in Roseburg, Oregon

After a month on the road, we finally met up with Cory in Roseburg, Oregon.  Cory got off work early and we joined him at his house.  Cory has a great fenced in back yard, and the dogs (the two Zoeys and Cory's Porter) played until they were exhausted.  We grilled some steaks and had a wonderful afternoon catching up.  Molly was still in Eugene, and would join us later in the week.

Tuesday, 10/6:  We are spending a second day in Roseburg.  Today is a catch up day for laundry and internet at Cory's house.  The dogs continued their antics in the backyard.  Porter never tires and has worn the two Zoeys out.

That afternoon we went to Becker Vineyard, our favorite craft winery.  Charlie and Peggy Becker are a great couple and we ended up buying a case of wine.  That evening, Molly joined us for dinner at the Roseburg Station Pub and Brewery.

Wednesday, 10/7:  70 miles and camped in Eugene, Oregon.  We did some more laundry and allowed the dogs to play in the morning at Cory's.  Later in the day, we moved the camper to Deerwood RV Park in Eugene, Oregon.

We had wanted to camp at Armitage County Park where we were married, but because of the Columbus Day Weekend, it was full.  Deerwood turned out to be a very nice park, although quite crowed and busy.  Fortunately we had a site that was quite large and private.  We spent the afternoon and evening resting and catching up on our reading.

Thursday, 10/8:  We did some grocery shopping this morning, and then, about noon, went to the Eugene Airport to pick up Judy's daughter Terri and her boyfriend Gus.  Terri and Gus are going to spend 4 days with us.  Terri has become good friends with Cory and Molly, so it was a reunion for her.  After some decompression time, we all went to the Cornicopia for dinner.  Judy and Terri had to buy Cornicopia shirts.

Friday, 10/9:  This morning we decided to take a morning hike to a prominent Eugene landmark, Spencer Butte.

We followed the hike up with a trip to the Bier Stein Brew Pub for lunch.  Lter in the day we went wine tasting at Sarver Winery, where we ended up buying a case.  Over the course of tastings, we discovered that our server was from the Watertown, NY area, just a few miles from our home in Gouverneur.   We followed up the Sarver tasting with a short stop at the Domaine Meriwether Winery.  We ended the day by barbecuing chicken (using the Cornell recipe, of course) at Molly and her parents place.  Cory and Molly's friends Jaime and Dustin joined us as well.  Terri and Gus ended up having so much fun that they decided to stay and party all night while Judy and I went back to camper.

Molly's Mom has an amazing raised bed garden.

Saturday, 10/10:  Today we decided to head for the coast and see some ocean.  All six of us piled into the truck and headed out.  The weather turned rainy and windy as we reached the coast.  We made a stop at Cape Perpatua, where we walk the beach.  The winds wild and the ocean was angry, but it was beautiful.  Later we ate lunch and shopped in the coastal town of Florance.

Sunday, 10/11:  We have to have Gus and Terri at the airport by 12:30 today.  We made a quick late morning stop at Falling Sky Brewery for lunch first.  After seeing Gus and Molly off, we spent some down time and ended the day by grilling steaks at Molly's place.

On Monday we head south toward Ashland, Oregon to catch up a Potsdam High School alum, Katie Leuthauser.
