Fall Western Trip 2015: Livingston, Montana

Friday, 9/26:  Camped at Rock Canyon RV Park, Livingston Montana.  Rock Canyon is a small park located right on the Yellowstone River.  It has been owned by the same family since 1972.

It was a nice drive today on a combination of highways, including Interstate 90 and US 212.  We saw some really wide open and remote country.  Now I know why they call this Big Sky Country.  In fact, at one point we came across some modern day sheep herders, using ATVs instead of horses.

Saturday, 9/27:  Today we drove to Yellowstone National Park.  The park is about an hour drive from Livingston.  As expected, the park was crowded.  In fact, a record 3.8 million visitors have been there so far this year.  Also, as expected, we did not get to see anywhere near all of the park in a one day visit.  However, we did get to see lots of wildlife, including elk, moose, buffalo, mule deer, big horn sheep, antelope, coyote and fox.  We took in a sampling of geysers, but stayed away from the really crowded spots like Old Faithful.  The first picture below is a 20 second video.

We capped off the day with a visit to the Katabatic Brewing Company where we sampled a couple of local brews.

Tomorrow we are off to meet my sister Karen and her husband Bob in Crescent City, California three days from now.
