Fall Western Trip 2015: Livingston, Montana to Crescent City, California

Monday, 9/28:  Camped at Wallace RV Park, in historic Wallace, Idaho.  It was a very nice drive on I-90 today with little traffic, nice roads and great scenery.  Not at all like the crowded I-90 in New York.  Wallace has quite a history as a silver mining town.  The actress Lana Turner was born here and the film Dante's Peak was filmed here too.

Stream side view.

We were almost the only ones there.

The owners of this park also own The City Limits Brew Pub next door where their North Idaho Mountain Brew is served.

Tuesday, 9/29:  Camped on the Columbia River at Boardman Marine and RV Park in Boardman, Oregon.

This is a very nice park right on the Columbia River.
Lots of paths to walk the dogs and great views.
We would definitely stay here again.

As we left Wallace, Idaho we took a detour and drove Idaho Route 195 and 26 for much of the day, which took us through the Palouse region of eastern Washington.  The picturesque Palouse Prairie is made of wind blow silt dunes formed during the ice ages.  These rolling dunes of highly productive loess soil sustain a major dry land wheat and lentil farming region.

We crossed the Columbia River, which is the border between Washington State and Oregon and camped in Boardman, Oregon.  Boardman is an interesting city.  Because of their port on the Columbia River, a lot is happening.  Amazon has several huge data servers here.  We also drove by a very large tree farm.  Called the Boardman Tree Farm, it is amazing to see.  The 25,000 acre farm includes 7.5 million trees.  It is the largest contiguous irrigated tree farm in the United States. The gentleman who checked me in said that he had a chance to tour the farm, and the technology blew him away.   Hybrid poplars are grown and each tree is watered individually by computer!  Sections are harvested every 10 to 12 years, and then a new plantation is started.

Wednesday, 9/30:  Camped in Big Pines RV Park in Crescent, Oregon.  Crescent is located in the high desert region of central and southeast Oregon.

Thursday, 10/1:  Camped at the Crescent City KOA, Crescent City, California.

OK, Judy and I almost had one of our miss "adventures." We were meeting my sister Karen Sipher and brother in law Bob Bailie for a weekend. Karen called me about 11:00 Thursday morning and said she saw on FB where we were meeting in Eureka, but they had reservations in Crescent City. Oops, we had reserved Eureka, while they had reserved Crescent City. Thanks to social media, we were soon back on track and we all ended up at the Crescent City KOA. What a day.  smile emoticon
