Canada 2014: Quebec City to Bas-Saint-Laurent

Wednesday and Thursday, 9/10 and 9/11

165 miles, and camped at Bas-Saint-Laurent KOA, near Rimouski, Quebec.

Site D13

The drive from Quebec City KOA to Bas-Saint-Laurent  was interstate all the way.  I never realized there was this much farmland in this part of Quebec.  Lots of wheat, corn, soybeans and dairy.  The land was flat and fertile, typical of the St. Lawrence River Valley.

We arrived at the campground about 2:30, and the weather was warm and sunny.

After a light lunch, we all took a side trip in Al’s truck and drove up to Rimouski, about 30 miles away.  We found an IGA and did some grocery shopping.  We happened across the Hotel Gouverneurs, (our home town is Gouverneur) where we had to stop and take a photo.

The campground was still nearly empty when we got back, and it stayed that way.  We cooked burgers over a campfire for dinner.

We had planned to leave Thursday, but the weather forecast was for wind and rain, so we decided to stay put and leave on Friday.  I’m glad we did as the forecast proved completely true, and then some.  The wind was so bad we couldn't put our awning out, and it rained hard.  Wifi at the KOA was not working, so I had to depend on French television for the forecast, which was for wind and rain on Thursday, and cool and sunny on Friday.   Fortunately French doppler radar is the same as US doppler radar.  :-))

So, Thursday ended up being a lazy day of napping and reading.  We'll hit the road again Friday morning.
