France 2.0: Thursday and Friday, April 7 and 8, 2011

The kids were pumped! They started bringing luggage to my classroom for storage just about the same time I got to school. My classroom was being used as the staging area. By 12:30 we were loading the bus, and we pulled out of the school parking lot right on time at 1:00 PM.

Passing through Canadian customs was uneventful and even the security line at Montreal Airport was quite fast. After a gate change, the Air Transat flight took off about 7:30 Thursday evening. The flight time is almost seven hours. That combined with a six hour time change and we landed in Paris just after 8:00 Friday morning. I managed to watch two movies and sleep only about an hour on the plane. So, while excited, most of us started the day in Paris already tired. A tour bus picked us up right on schedule. I'll summarize real quick. The hotel check in was delayed by several hours because the rooms were not ready. That created a bump in the schedule. The French pastry cooking class was phenomenal. If the kids were tired before the class, they were on sugar highs by the end of the class. :-)

Then we walked off the calories and went to the Centre Pompidou. There is a modern art museum there along with a huge outdoor social area with shops and street entertainers. After dinner, at a not so fine French food cafeteria style restaurant, we went to the Louvre Museum. By now the sugar high has dissipated, the the kids were dragging. The sight of the Mona Lisa seemed to revive some energy. We got back to the hotel about 10 and we were dead tired!
