343 miles: camped in the driveway of Dave and Ann Wright in Amherst, Wisconsin.
It is a warm and windy morning at Mackinaw City. At 7:00 in the morning the temperature is 70 degrees. Zoey and I went for a walk along the beach and caught a beautiful sunrise over Lake Huron, as well as a great view of the Mackinac Bridge.
We left the campground about 8:00 and crossed the bridge. There were high wind warnings posted on the bridge, so RVs, buses and tractor trailers were restricted to a 20 mile per hour speed limit. The view going over the bridge was spectacular.
For most of the day, we drove along the shore of Lake Michigan. The winds were strong, which made driving more challenging, but created awesome white caps on the lake. We stopped many times for walks on the beaches, and even found a place for a picnic lunch on the beach.
We arrived at Dave and Ann's about 2:30. That was earlier than I expected, but I had forgotten that I was entering the Central Time Zone, and thus gained an hour of time. After a couple hours of catching up, Dave and Ann took me to a weekly potluck dinner gathering of friends at a nearby lake.
I don't have a plan yet for the next few days. We may do some camping and canoeing on the Mississippi River, which is a couple hours away. More later...........
