Retirement Road Trip 2011: Day 12, Tuesday 9/6

219 miles, camped at Salmon Lake State Park, Montana

Darn, another bright and sunny day in Montana.  Mark and Jeanne Leuthauser packed up and left about 9:00.  Dave and Ann Wright and I got on the road about an hour later.  We took I-90 west for about 60 miles, then headed north on RT. 287, which took us through downtown Helena.  There we picked up RT. 12, then 141, then 200 and finally north on 83, which took us right by the State Park.  The drive after we left the Interstate was smooth and beautiful.  There were wide open views and huge fields of wheat.

We did spot a small forest fire way up in the mountains.

Salmon Lake State Park is small, really nice park.  There are 23 sites and they all have electric service, and each site has a paved, level pad to park on.  The park is nearly empty with only six of the 23 sites occupied.  I am parked right on the water.  Dave and Ann set up their tent on the same site.

We will probably stay here for a few days and use it as a base of operations for fishing and road trips each day.  Then it will be off to Idaho, Washington, and Oregon.

See ya.......
