2019 Fall Western Trip: Sisters and Bend, Oregon

Wednesday 10/2:  Parked at Boardman RV Park, Boardman, Oregon

Site 3
View of the Columbia River from our campsite.
We have stayed at this park several times.  It is right on the Columbia River, has full hookups, and large sites.  We really like it.  Just a half mile away was a new brew pub, Burnt Field Brewing.  So we had to try it out.  It is located in the renovated, original 1916 Boardman train depot.  Mary, who was tending bar, was very chatty and we ended up buying a half growler.  It was a fun time.

On to Sisters, Oregon tomorrow.

Thursday 10/3: 195 miles and parked at Creekside Park, Sisters, Oregon

Creekside Campground, site 4.
During the month of October, Sisters Creekside Campground does not accept reservations.  It is a charming, city owned park and it was first come, first serve for finding a site.  Thus we made it a point of arriving early after a nice 4 hour drive along the Columbia River and Eastern Oregon wheat fields.  We arrived at 1:30 and found a spot with full hookups.  Good thing we came early, because by 4:00 most of the larger sites were taken.  It was warm enough, mid 50's along with bright sunshine, that we were able to sit outside for a while.  Then it was reading and TV.

Judy and her reading buddies.
Friday 10/4:

It was a chilly 34 this morning.  Son Cory showed up about noon.  He lives near Eugene, about 2 hours away.  He and his dog Porter are going to hang out with us for a few days.  We went to Three Creeks Brewing for a late lunch.

Back at the campsite, since it was sunny out, we sat around the fire pit and got caught up some more.  That evening, Cory was going to tent camp, but the forecasted cool temps discouraged him.  So he ended up staying in the camper.

Saturday 10/5:

We woke to a brisk 29 degrees this morning.    First thing I did was run the kitchen sink to make sure the water hose hadn't frozen.  No problem, it hadn't.  About 10:00 we decided to walk around the Sisters downtown.  It was a cool 50 degrees, but the sun was shining bright.  The streets were busy with traffic and shoppers.  It was fun walking around and seeing all the shops. Of course, we added to the Sisters economy with some gift shopping.

A small glimpse of downtown Sisters.
We had thought about finding a pub for lunch, but since we are grilling steaks for dinner, we opted to go back to the camper for snacks.  Then we watched college football, napped and read.  For dinner, we grilled fillet mignon steaks.

Sunday 10/6:

It was another brisk 29 degrees this morning again.  It gradually warmed up to the low 60"s by afternoon.  Today we decided to go to Bend, Oregon for shopping and brew pubs.  On our way to Bend, we drove by a gorgeous view of the Sisters Mountains.

First I wanted to visit a Verizon store for some help with my data plan for the iPad.  They were absolutely no help.  While I was at Verizon, Judy went to TJ Maxx.  Next door was a Hobby Lobby where she wanted to look for some yarn. They were closed.  Come to find out, it is the company policy to close all of their stores on Sundays so employees can have family time.  That's a bold policy in today's corporate money hungry world.

Cory knows Bend well, so he had a couple of brew pubs he wanted to show us.  The first stop was Worthy Brewing.  We sat outside on the deck and ordered lunch along with a beer.  I love their company motto, "Earth first Beer second."

The second stop was Ten Barrel Brewing.  Again, we sat outside on the patio and we each tried a beer.

Then it was back to the camper for naps and watching Sunday football.  Later, Cory headed back to his home in the Eugene area.  Judy and I closed out the evening huddled up around the fire pit.

Monday 10/7:

Heat wave!!  Only 30 this morning.  Today is a travel day, but we had to grocery shop and refill propane first.  Then we moved on to Eugene.
