2019 Spring Southern Trip: Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Thursday April 4:  136 miles and parked at Rocky Mount KOA, Endfield, NC

Site 26, Rocky Mount KOA

Short drive today.  We have stayed at this campground before.  It makes a good stopping point when traveling South.  We grilled chicken for dinner using the Cornell Recipe sauce.

Friday April 5:  237 miles and parked at Myrtle Beach KOA,  Myrtle Beach, SC

Site 151, Myrtle Beach KOA

A long drive today with rain, and heavy traffic caused by Spring Break travelers.  Upon arrival, I texted retired teacher and long time friend Rod Grant.  We agreed to meet at a nearby Damon's Grill for dinner.  Damon's turned out to be a wonderful beachfront restaurant.  We had a really great time catching up with Rod and his wife Cheryl.  Come to find out, Sue had worked with the Grants when she also worked in Canton.  Among the many menu options, we tried crab cakes, BBQ ribs, and grilled snapper.  They were all excellent.

Saturday April 6:

We had originally planned to a attend a wine festival today, but Rod and Cheryl had to cancel because Rod was ill.  So Sue, Al, Judy and I decided to go to the Second Avenue Pier, one of several piers in the area.  It was a beautiful and sunny day, and was a relaxing way to spend an afternoon watching the fisherman and walking the beach.

After the visit to the pier, we went to Broadway on the Beach, a shopping and dinning destination.  We lunched at the Liberty Grill and then, because it was such a warm and beautiful day, we just walked around and did some light shopping. We happened to walk by The Grumpy Monk Restaurant, and I had to take a photo of Al because of his occasional curmudgeon spells.  :-)

Al at the Grumpy Monk.  All in good fun.  :-)

Then it was back to the campers for some relaxation.  It was left overs for dinner, and then some wine around the campfire.  Tomorrow we continue our trek south, this time stopping in Charleston, SC.  Stay tuned....
