2018 Fall Western Trip: Eugene, Oregon

Friday, 10/5:  122 miles and parked at Armitage County Park, Eugene, Oregon

Site 31
It was a chilly 37 this morning.  We packed up and got on the road by 11:00  It was a beautiful drive over the McKenzie Scenic Highway to Eugene.  We arrived at Armitage County Park at 1:30 to light showers.  Cory and Terri stopped about 3:00 after leaving their dogs at Cory's house.  Then went to North Fork Pub for late lunch/early dinner.

After the pub, we stopped at Cory's new home and got their dogs.  This is the first time I have got to see his new place.  Then it was back to the camper and we watched the Yankee-Red Sox playoff game by streaming over the computer.

Saturday, 10/6:

It was a warmer 57 this morning.  Today is an Oregon wine tasting day.  We started it with pancakes and NY made Bigarel maple syrup that I helped make back in March.  Then we went to the Saturday Market in Eugene.  It is the largest farmers and craft markets we have ever been to.  It was HUGE.  We ended up buying a lot of fresh produce.  In fact, we even had to buy a bag to carry it all.

Later, it was on to Sarver Winery, one of Terri's favorites.  We tasted and ended up buying more than we planned on.  Oh well.  After Sarver, we tried one other winery, Sweet Cheeks Winery.  This one was much larger, and a bit more commercial, but the wines were fantastic, and again we bought more than we planned to.

Time to head back to the camper.  First, a quick stop at Noble Estate Winery.  Relax, we didn't sample.  Terri is running a half marathon Sunday and the start and finish is at Noble Estate.  We just stopped to pick up her bib number.

Then it was back to the camper for some Cornell Chicken BBQ while we streamed the Yankee-Red Sox playoff game.  The fun fact about this recipe is that it was invented by Robert Baker, a Cornell fraternity brother of my Dad.  Very, very cool.  The Yankee's won, which was good news for Terri.  She has tickets for the game on Tuesday, and this Yankee win insured that she would be able to go, even though the Red Sox are favored to win.

Sunday, 10/7:

It was 45 this morning and we're reluctantly starting to get used to this Fall weather.  As we move south in the next few days, maybe it will warm up.

Today was Terri's half marathon race day.  Cory dropped her off at the start about 8:45 and then came over to the campground.   After breakfast, we headed over to the finish line at Noble Estates and watched her cross.  It was fun, especially watching, not running.  :-))

Then it was back to Cory's for Terri to shower and clean up.  About 1:00 we headed out for some lunch and in four hours we visited three breweries.  First stop was the Arbor Bar at Public House where we grabbed a light lunch and tasted a brew.  It was warm enough that we sat outside.

Anchor Bar at Public House
Public House, Springfield, Oregon
Next up was Cold Fire.

Then we ended the afternoon at Viking Braggot brew pub.

We delivered Terri to the airport right at 6:00 for her 7:00 flight back east.  After our "Good Byes" we headed back to the camper for snacks of cheese and sausage.  Dinner was cheese and sausage.  My sister Karen called and we made plans for meeting her and Bob in Monterey in a couple days.  Judy and I stayed up and watched some TV, but I fell asleep on the recliner.  Long day!!

Monday, 10/8:  Columbus Day Holiday

It was a mild 54 this morning with a drizzle of rain falling.  Terri texted during the night that she had arrived safely back in NY.

Today was a laundry morning at Cory's.  I also had to jump on his Wifi to update some computer stuff.  Judy wasn't feeling well, so I went to Cory's alone.  After laundry, Cory and I went to visit Becker Winery in Roseburg, about an hour away.  We have grown to know and really appreciate Charlie and Peggy Becker and their small family run artisan winery, and we always try to visit them when in Oregon.  We ended up buying a case of wine, which is what we usually do.

After getting back to the camper, Judy and I went to Cory's for dinner.  We were home by 7:30 and watched a couple of shows on TV.  Tomorrow we leave Eugene and head south to meet up with my sister and her husband in a few days.
