Cory stopped by for coffee and to say "Good Bye" on his way to work this morning. Then we packed up and hit the road by 10:00.
This is a very nice park with good size, grassed sites. We would definitely stay here again if in the area.
Wednesday, 10/10: 158 miles and parked at Parkway RV Resort in Orland, California
Short drive today, so there was no need to rush. This section of I-5 is very scenic, passing through northern California. In one case, we rounded a curve and were rewarded with a fantastic view of Mt. Shasta. As we passed the Redding area, we saw some effects of the massive forest fires that California suffered this summer. We arrived at the campground about 1:30. Orland is located in the heart of almond and olive orchards. It was so warm and pleasant out that we sat outside and had our traditional beer after setup.
Thursday, 10/11: 275 miles and parked at the Moss Landing KOA, Moss Landing, CA
Long drive scheduled for today, so we got an early start by 9:00. There was some traffic congestion that slowed the trip with lots of traffic around Sacramento. We arrived at Moss Landing about 2:30. This KOA is a small and very tight park right next to the marina. However, it is beautifully maintained and landscaped. After setup, we sat outside and had our traditional celebratory beer for another successful journey. While enjoying the sunshine, we met two interesting couples and talked campers and travels. One couple had a Reflection camper and the other had been to all 48 lower states as well as Alaska.
Bob and Karen stopped by about 4:00. We went to nearby Monterey to walk around and have dinner. We scored a beautiful bayside table at Lalla Ocean Side Grill. We all chose a light dinner and nothing too fancy. It was fish and chips for me and an awesome tuna salad for Judy.
Then it was back to the camper for after dinner drinks with Bob and Karen, and then Judy and I watched some TV to unwind.
It was a long, but fun day.
Friday, 10/12:
It was another sunny day in CA. Is this weather ever going to end? Bob and Karen picked us up at 9:00. This morning's plan was Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is absolutely amazing. If you are ever in the area, go!!!!! We took a break for an excellent lunch at the Aquarium food court, and then finished the exhibits.
Then is was back to the camper for naps and dog walking. Bob and Karen picked us up again about 5:00 and we went to the Salt Wood for dinner. There we met their friends Bob and Laura. It was a wonderful evening with very good food for dinner, excellent wine, and best of all, great and fun conversation.
Saturday, 10/13:
Another sunny day. Bob and Karen picked us up at 10:00, then we drove the 17 Mile Drive around Pebble Beach. In addition to fantastic ocean views, there were luxury houses (average price of a home in Pebble Beach is 5 million) and 5 immaculate golf courses.
Then we went to Carmel, where we met Bob and Laura for lunch at Vina Napoli. After lunch we walked around Carmel and did some shopping. We ended up stopping at Wrath Wines for a wine tasting. Their wine was fantastic, and we bought 4 bottles.
