We got back on the road about 3:00 in the afternoon. The Rawlins KOA was only about four hours away and sure enough we pulled in about 7:00. But then, the 12 volt system failed again, just like it did in Denver. By unhooking the batteries and replacing fuses, we were able to get one slide out. There has to be a loose wire somewhere!!!
Tuesday, May 12th: 656 miles and camped in Vale, Oregon.
Since we lost a travel day in Denver, we had to turn four driving days into three to get to Eugene on time. Today was going to be a long one. Fortunately, the weather cooperated and the Interstate traffic was thin and the driving stress free. We got an early start, about 7:00 AM and we pulled into Vale, Oregon about 7:00 PM. Vale Trails RV Park is a beautiful little campsite located right in the middle of Vale, population 1,800.
The electrical issue is still with us, but at least we've developed a system of using the battery to run the slides out and then disconnecting it to run the 12 volt system using the 110 volt converter.
Wednesday, May 13th: 371 miles and camped in Eugene, Oregon.
We were on the road by 7:00 again. This is the first day that almost the entire trip was off the Interstate, and what an enjoyable trip it was. We took Oregon State Rt. 20 most of the way. There was very little traffic and the driving pace was stress free. We saw beef cattle grazing, sheep grazing, mountains, open plains and small farms tucked along rivers in mountain valleys. We arrived at Armitage County Park about 2:00. This is a beautiful park with paved, level parking pads, water, electricity and sewer. The sites are reasonably large and somewhat private. The park also has a large day use picnic area and boat ramp to the McKenzie River, so there are lots of trails to walk the dogs. We couldn't have picked a better place for an extended stay.
Now to spend a few days with my son Cory and his girlfriend Molly.
