Mississippi to Home

The final few days of any of our trips are always bittersweet.  We love our home base, but.....we also really love our RV lifestyle.

Wednesday April 1st:  The Landing in Canton, Mississippi for 1 night

This was a new stop for us, and for only one night.  The park was full, mostly long term folks who kept their sites neat and tidy.  The park is expanding by almost doubling the number of sites and adding a pool along with other features.  There is a huge 10 billion dollar Amazon Web Services data center being built across the street that has stirred up the usual controversy of jobs vs pollution and traffic.

Thursday, April 2nd:  Tom Sawyer RV Park, West Memphis, Arkansas for 5 nights

We are here for a 5 night stay, and have stayed here many times over our travels.  The park is not fancy, but the sites are large and better yet, located just feet from the Mississippi River.  You can sit and watch barge traffic to your hearts content, which is what we do.  There is also acres of wide open space to walk the pups.

April 7, Buffalo/I-40 KOA, Hurricane Mills, TN for 1 night

This was a new stop for us, and unfortunately for only one night.  We were upgraded to a site with a private mini dog park.

Before leaving, we stopped at a wonderful Mennonite Farm Market.

April 8, Crossville/I-40 KOA, Crossville, TN for 1 night

Again, another stop for just one night.  This is a nice park with many convenient pull thru sites and lots of area to walk Maggie and Parker.

April 9, Wytheville KOA, Wytheville, Virginia for 3 nights

Wytheville is a very convenient stop for us and we have used it many times.  There are a variety of sites, including wooded, open, pull thru, back in and rustic.  There is a rec hall and bowling alley on site.  I always compliment the staff on how neat everything is.

April 12, Walnut Hills RV Park, Staunton, Virginia for 1 night

Again, this is another park we have stayed in before.  We picked one of the W/E only sites in an open area near the entrance.

April 13, American Heritage RV Park for 4 nights, Williamsburg, Virginia

We arranged a 4 night stay here to meet some of Pamela's family.  It was a wonderful time connecting with everyone.  Years before we spent some time here visiting all the historic sites, so this visit was just great visiting time with family and new friends.

April 17, Harrisonburg KOA, Broadway, Virginia for 1 night

April 18, Jonestown KOA, Jonestown, PA for 1 night

Parker and Maggie's last night on the road for this trip.

April 19, Home

After a long 6 hour and 340 mile drive we're home.  The drive is much longer than our comfort zone, but this at time of the year, Jonestown KOA is the closest campground open.

Home to a green lawn, but no eaves on the trees yet.

Soooo, how was our first winter away from NNY???   It was wonderful!  In fact we are going to do it again.  We love our home on wheels and we have gained so many new friends along the way.

See ya down the road!!

A Fun Two Weeks in Natches, MS

Tuesday, March 17:  Sam Houston Jones SP, Lake Charles, Louisiana

We stopped for a return visit for one night on our way home.  We had a 2 night stay back in January on our way to Texas.  This is a lovely park that has recently been rebuilt after storm damage.

Sunrise over the cypress pond.

Wednesday March 18:  River View RV Park in Vidalia, Louisiana.

Site 150

The RV Resort is located on the Mississippi River right across from Natchez, MS.  This is our 3rd time here, and each time we stay a little longer.  There is lots of open space to walk the pups, as well as a large dog park.  And we never tire of watching the constant flow of barge traffic on the river.  And a short 10 minute drive takes you to the historic area of Natchez along the bluff over looking the river.  For you history buffs, this Wikipedia entry is a good beginning point to learn more.

We connected with our Baton Rouge friends for a second time on this trip.  They come to this park often for Memorial and Labor Day Holidays.  In fact, the 6 of us have started calling ourselves The Motley Crew.  This time they even brought along another family member couple who RV and we had a grand time.

Lunch at Fat Mamas.

As with many of our camping stops, we made some new friends here.  Bill and Jeanne full time in a Brinkley camper, and we hit it off instantly.  We only got to spend a couple of days with them, but made plans to try to connect where they summer at a park in Connecticut.

We made a visit to the Saturday Farmers Market in Natchez where we picked up a few goodies.

We had such a nice time that we made reservations for a month long stay over the Christmas and New Year Holidays next winter.  Maggie and Parker loved their porch time and all the attention they received.

I'll end with some photos of the amazing sunrises over the Mississippi River and Natchez.

Now it's a final almost 3 week swing home.  Stay tuned.
