Fall 2018 Western Trip: To Wisconsin

Sunday, 9/9:  222 miles and camped at Alum Creek State Park, Delaware, Ohio

Site E-12
Campground beach at Alum Creek.
We woke this morning to pouring rain, and it is forecasted to rain on our entire trip today.   We said our "good byes" to Matt, Jaime, Chasen and Kaylin and were on the road by 10:30.  We arrived at Alum Creek about 3:00, and yes, it did rain, sometimes heavy, for the entire trip.  Fortunately, it let up for us to set up.  This is a huge State Park with a marina, hiking trails, and a 300 site campground. But the sites are probably the largest of almost any campground we have ever stayed at.  They are all paved and nearly level with electric service.  A few have full hookups, which have paved patios as well, and we had one of those.

Monday, 9/10:  176 miles and camped at Camp Timber Lake, Huntington, Indiana

Site 32
It rained off and on most of the night, but it eased up by morning.  We packed up and were on the road about 10:30.  We have only a three hour drive today, so no rush.  In fact, we pulled into Camp Timber Lake right about 1:30.  It was a cool 62 and overcast.  Judy discovered a winery about 3 miles from the campground, so we wandered down about 3:30.   What a find!!!   Two EE's Winery.  It was superb.  We sampled and stayed about an hour and half, and we ended up buying half a case.  The two EE's are owners Eric and Emily.  The decor was modern and simple.  Even better, the wine was fantastic.

In a moment of weakness, we decided to let the dogs sleep with us tonight.  Very cozy with two 70 pound dogs and us on a queen bed.  :-))

Happy dogs.
Tuesday, 9/11:  270 miles and camped at the LaSalle/Peru KOA, Utica, Illinois

Site 3, LaSalle/Peru KOA
It was cool and foggy this morning, but at least the rain has stopped.  We met Judy's grand daughter Christa, and her mom, Sonya, for breakfast.

Then back to the camper and were on the road by 11:00.  We had a really nice drive across rural Indiana on two lane roads and through small towns today.  We saw miles of corn and soybean fields.  And then we saw even more miles and miles of corn and soybeans.  We did see a huge sunflower field though. It was beautiful.  We pulled into the campground about 3:15.  But we are in the Central Time Zone now, so it felt like 4:15.  It was a beautiful and warm day, so we sat outside and read for awhile until dinner time.

Tomorrow we head for Amherst, Wisconsin for a 3 night stay.
