Retirement Road Trip 2011: Days 49, 50 and 51, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 10/13 to 10/15

0 miles on the truck and parked for all three days at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, California.

I've been living large for the past three days!! The wedding of Jessica and Aaron turned out to be an amazing event.  Jessie and Aaron work for Facebook, and they have spared no expense to entertain their guests.  I don't know who is running Facebook this weekend because it seems like almost the entire management team is here, including Mark Zuckerburg.

Thursday started out out with a Bourbon and Bow Tie Party.  The bourbon part was just like a wine tasting party, except sampling various bourbons instead.  Aaron likes bow ties, so every male guest was given a bow tie that we had to learn to hand tie.  I finally got the hang of it, but it wasn't easy.

Friday morning Mark and Laurie Leonard, along with Zoey and I drove up in to the San Jacinto Mountains, which overlook Palm Springs.

Friday afternoon was the "official" pool party, except it seemed like every day there was a party at the pool.  The weather here was over 100 degrees every day, so a lot of time was spent in the pool. The hotel is very dog friendly, and Zoey was a hit. She turned out to be a real chick magnet around the pool.  :-)   Friday night brought about a lavish dinner and dance party, along with some very moving (and very funny) toasting and roasting of Aaron and Jessica.

The wedding was Saturday afternoon and outdoors.  It was very different, and very moving.  Jessie and Aaron have many friends from India, and have attended a wedding in India.  So they decided to incorporate some of the Indian traditions into their wedding.  One of these traditions is called the baraat.  The baraat is a musical procession of dancing and singing where the groom is escorted to the brides home. Aaron's baraat included a High School marching band and antique car.  The actual wedding vows were simple and moving.  Jessie and Aaron wrote the vows.  And of course, there was another party afterwards.

So, after three days, I'm partied out.  Now it's on to Tucson, Arizona Sunday to visit Kristin and Max Eaton.  Kristin is the daughter of good friends Don and Barb Sadue from Gouverneur.
