0 miles: Still camped in East Lansing, MI
I got to see and shop a wonderful Farmers Market on Saturday. Lots of various different vegetables, both common and exotic. One vendor had at least 10 different kinds of garlic! There was farm raised shrimp, organic lamb, fresh trout and white fish from Northern Michigan, and much, much more. Farmers Markets in College Towns seem to do well. East Lansing is the home of Michigan State University. I spent a wonderful afternoon at the High School graduation party of Mary Ann's granddaughter, Keirsten.
Sunday was another party day. The weather was absolutely perfect. 75, sunny, and not to humid with a slight breeze. Mary Ann planned a "decades" party. She realized that a bunch of the relatives had birthdays ending in the years with a 9. So, the years 1919, 1939, 1949, 1959, 1969, 1979, 1999, and 2009 were represented. Some of the honorees were deceased, but were still a part of the celebration. They included my mother and Eric's mother, both born in 1919 and Kathy who was born in 1949. Mary Ann prepared a poster board with old pictures. About 80 people showed up at some point during the day. Lots of food, drink, and conversation. The food was phenomenal!
My cousin Cara's (Mary Ann's daughter) son is "camping out" with me tonight in the truck camper. He is just a few days short of turning 6. And on top of that, he lost a front tooth today. So I'm in charge of making sure the tooth ferry can find him tonight. :-)
On Monday I head for Ludington, MI. I have a reservation for the ferry crossing at 8:00 Tuesday morning.
Stay tuned.
Dave
