278 miles: Camped in Stafford NY.
A nice relaxing day to start the journey. I started by taking a detour and visiting my Uncle Roger Sipher in Cortland, NY. We went out for a quick lunch. Then I wandered north toward Stafford NY (just east of Batavia) were I parked in my Uncle Lester's driveway. For those of you not familiar with my family, my father is the oldest of 3 children and my late mother was the oldest of 12 children. So Roger is my dad's brother and Lester is one of my mom's brothers.
I had forgotten how beautilful the drive into Ithaca on Rt. 13 is. As you go down the hill toward Ithaca, Cayuga Lake is on the right and Ithaca College is on the oposite hill. I took Rt. 96 up out of Ithaca and eventually crossed the ridge and saw Seneca Lake. Eventually hit Geneva and then on to Leroy and Staford.
I appreciate that many of the details I record will be of no interest to you. But it's a good way for me to keep track of the trip. So, all in all, no great earth shattering activities or observations. Some some good times spent with family.
On to East Lansing MI for Friday night.

Starting Over
Where to begin?
This adventure starts with a life altering event. My wife and best friend of 40 years, and the mother of my 3 sons, Kathleen Mason Sipher, died on Good Friday, April 10, 2009 after a 40 year battle with cancer. A close friend of mine said that it was going to be interesting watching me "reinvent" my life. Well, this trip is the start of that reinvention. I purchased a truck camper and now I'm heading West to meet one of my sons in Glacier National Park in Montana. That's 2,635 miles one way! And then I have to get home to start work on September 1st. But, I have a traveling companion. She is blond, petite, and beautiful. Zoey is a 3 year Golden Retriver. So in the footsteps of "Travels with Charlie" by John Steinbeck and "Blue Highways" by Willian Least Heat-Moon, this is my journey. Stay tuned!
